Has anyone else had or experienced this with downloading map updates from Garmin? Not sure why a map update would delete your Favorites. On a Nuvi, at least, all the update does is overwrite the existing map file, gmapprom. It doesn't touch anything else. I hear your pain but I wouldn't think Garmin would be in much of a hurry to refund your money. You bought a map update and you have a map update. X Yes, we are some of there biggest 'non-paid' employees. Just logon to Navteq. Wow, cool , so If I want to be a unpaid employee joke I can let them know that businesses have closed and or moved?
So it's an honor system thing like Wikipedia? Bought a Lifetime map card from Amazon last week. Now scheduled for delivery on the 21st Is there a way of downloading the map to a computer now, and then apply the lifetime code when it arrives to send it to the Nuvi ? I think you need the code in order to activate your Lifetime account. That code will come with the card you purchased from Amazon. You wouldn't be able to download the maps until your lifetime account is activated.
You'll need the code. Or if you own the business and you want to make sure that you are on the map, lol, then you might want to rush and tell them.
Thanks for the link to the Lifetime Activation site!! I'm ready to do so Hopefully Tomorrow!!! I just ordered my maps for my KNA-G,Does anyone know if I will lose my custom poi's and favorites or will they work on my new maps?? I'd say it's anybody's guess why they are 2 quarters behind but it's been like that for awhile now. A guess would be that, at least prior to having the ability to download the maps, they had to take the map data from Navteq and then get all the DVD's produced and out to their dealers, etc.
With the ability now to download the maps directly from the website most of that problem would go away I would think. Who knows, maybe they can buy old maps from Navteq cheaper than the most current ones. Why would that be, as it's unlikely that Garmin modifies the map data? They leave a lot of stuff out and set routes to avoid certain roads that are reversible and have rush hour restrictions such as for car pool only.
That's interesting but I would have thought that Navteq's data would include that information. Where would Garmin get the data about carpool lanes etc. Edit - Oh, I see your saying that Garmin takes out data or modifies the maps so the GPS won't calculate routes were the direction of traffic or carpool lanes may provide a wrong result. As I say, interesting. When I got the card, and went to activate it I stared, and thought it didn't have a activation number on it!!! I had No Idea you were supposed to rub off the swirls Didn't say to So I called, and had a nice call with a lady at Garmin And was suitably embarrassed I'll remember not to start it at 8PM next time!!
Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I was not able to find a spot that may work best. Most likely, your device will restart after every update. By using Garmin Connect, you can wirelessly update the software on your Garmin device.
However, this is not the only option available. You can also use Garmin Express to update your Garmin device. How does it work? Garmin Express is an app that you can download and install on your Mac or Windows computer. You can connect your device to your computer via a USB cable and update it through the cable. Garmin has stopped sending out the v update now that v has been released.
The best advice is to call Garmin and politely explain your situation and request the update. I remember the Update just like it was yesterday, what a mess that was, trying to figure out who was and wasn't gonna get it for free. Anyone think that getting an update every other year is a bad idea?
I know the update really covers road changes done a year or two ago. Running around with my Nuvi T. Getting lost around the country and loving it. I just bought a Nuvi yesterday also. I hope to get the new maps from garmin also. Nuvi 40 Check out. A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest. This is what Garmin told me. Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I had a phone conversation with Garmin April 9th.
This is what Garmin told me about map updates. The Map updates will be ready for release at the end of April, Zecpull 14 years. DrewDT 14 years. PaulATL 14 years. Philrobj 14 years. Counterforce 14 years. HotTub 13 years. Zecpull wrote: I just registered a new last week.. Motorcycle Mama 15 years. Qeno 14 years. PaulATL wrote: So I just called Garmin Tech support and inquired if my unit was availble for a free update and they said that they are in a "black out" right now so they can't view who's availible yet. I was told by Garmin Tech support late april jolleyr c HeavenSoldier 14 years. Irish FX4 13 years. I just bought mine W 2 days ago and there is already an update:. Maverick50 13 years. If so, how was the update and what steps did you have to go through?
I should get it next Monday. Does anyone know if the update comes with an updated Mapsourse program. I sure hope so, because I use it all the time. I would appreciate your response. I was told to call tech support to walk me through the procedure of loading the maps on the PC because it is not straight foward and it is a new feature on the City Navigator CD. I hope it works. If your unit was purchased and registered prior to March 1st with older mapping preloaded to it you are not eligible for a free map update, you must purchase the map update if you choose to update your Garmin product.
RF4Brass The update will update the maps in mapsource. Updates to the Mapsource program itself can be had by clicking on the Help button top menu and clicking on the "Check for Updates" button.
This will update "features" of the Mapsource program. I haven't posted in a while due to infrequent log ins. Glad I logged in to see the maps are ready to be released. Thanks for info. I went to gpscity. Lots of new users and members I see. Hope you find the site as useful as I have. Lots of knowledgeable people here to assist with any question you throw out there. I bought a and a last Christmas. I have updated so many of these types of products in the past and found them not to have the changes I had expected.
I think I will wait and see how all of you like your updates Well, I will have to determine if the new maps are worth the upgrade for my Unfortunately the entire map set won't fit on my , so I can't decide whether I should update or not. This update is compatible with the following units for both PC and Mac:. I noted the very limited listy of units "compatible" for the upgrade!!!! My is on the list, yet my isn't???!!!
Hmmmm, I've heard questions like that posed when computers started becoming more mainstream in the late 80's "How can the whole world have all their computers virtually networked together from household to household? The question is not necessarily for the consumer to solve but for companies that don't want to become extinct when more innovative companies solve these challenges efficiently. NavTeq doesn't necessarily have to look at 6 million entries all the time but better utilization of the resources already in place is a good start.
I myself have sent in updates of new roads for my area at Garmin's and Navteq's site 8 months ago but none of them showed up in this update. I'm sure as more roads and major changes in various areas take place, there are resources in various counties that list these changes. I would hope that cartography companies would utilize those resources in addition to the employees they have "beating the streets" so to speak. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
What they should do is make the maps user interactive so a user could make a correction on the garmin or navteq site and they could verify and have downloadable updates say maybe once a month. I have a c and just registered it 2 months ago In case you didn't see my post here is an email I received from Garmin
